JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In an exciting initiative aimed at fostering creativity and collaboration among the youth, the City of Jacksonville is set to unveil a citywide Minecraft build challenge. This innovative competition invites students to reimagine and redesign some of Jacksonville’s most iconic public spaces. Partnering with Minecraft Education, C40 Cities, and Duval County Public Schools, the event opens its doors to all K-12 students as well as college students enrolled in institutions within Duval County.
Project Launch and Objectives
The challenge officially kicks off on Monday, April 14, encouraging participants to work collaboratively to envision a sustainable and resilient riverfront community hub within the Minecraft universe. This project not only promotes teamwork but also emphasizes the importance of sustainability in urban design.
Divisions and Team Structure
Students will compete in four distinct divisions:
- Elementary School: 3rd-5th grade
- Middle School: 6th-8th grade
- High School: 9th-12th grade
- College Division: Students enrolled in local colleges
Each team can consist of up to five students, with the option to include two alternates. This structure allows for diverse collaboration and the sharing of ideas, enhancing the creative process.
Judging and Final Event
The submission deadline for entries is set for May 2. Following the initial evaluations, the top eight teams will advance to a live competition, culminating in an Esports-style final event known as the Mayor’s Cup, scheduled for May 20. This exciting finale promises to showcase the innovative designs and collaborative efforts of the participants.
