Mojang Studios has made a significant announcement regarding the future of Minecraft on PlayStation VR. In the latest patch notes, the developer revealed that support for the PlayStation VR version of the game will officially conclude in March 2025. This decision marks the end of updates for the platform, as confirmed by Mojang: “PlayStation VR has come to an end, and will no longer be supported in updates after March of 2025.”
Despite this shift, players will still have the opportunity to enjoy their saved worlds and continue engaging with Marketplace purchases, including Tokens. Mojang reassured its community that while the PlayStation VR functionality will be discontinued, users can still play Minecraft on their PlayStation consoles without the VR headset. The studio emphasized that after the final update, the game will remain accessible, albeit without the immersive VR experience.
In a related development, Mojang has also taken down the Minecraft VR webpage, which now leads to an error message, signaling a definitive end to the VR era for this beloved game. Meanwhile, the studio is actively working on a native version of Minecraft for the PlayStation 5, although it remains uncertain whether a port to PlayStation VR2 is in the pipeline.
Looking ahead, Mojang is shifting its strategy for content delivery. Instead of the traditional single free update during the summer, players can expect a series of “a number of free game drops throughout the year.” This approach aims to keep the game fresh and engaging, as Mojang commits to long-term initiatives that will ensure Minecraft continues to evolve and thrive in the gaming landscape.
