In the wake of the box office triumph of ‘A Minecraft Movie’, a curious phenomenon has emerged within theaters across the nation, raising eyebrows and concerns alike. The film features a character known as the “chicken jockey”—a whimsical child-like zombie perched atop a chicken. This peculiar figure has inadvertently ignited a wave of exuberance among teenage audiences, leading to chaotic scenes that have left theater staff scrambling to restore order.
Theater Response to Unruly Audiences
Josephine Sclama, Shift Lead Manager at B&B Theatres in Topeka, shared insights into the situation. “Once that scene comes and goes, the rest of the theatre is fine,” she noted. To mitigate the potential for disruption, staff members have taken to monitoring screenings closely, particularly during the infamous chicken jockey scene. “We’ll go in for the chicken jockey scene, stand there and make sure it doesn’t get out of hand, no one’s throwing anything,” Sclama explained.
The aftermath of these outbursts has proven to be a considerable challenge. Sclama recounted instances where employees spent up to four hours cleaning up the mess left behind. “Soda was thrown, and when you leave it alone, it gets sticky. You have to mop over two or three times, and as you’re cleaning, you have to be careful because you’re mopping back and forth trying to get the place spotless,” she elaborated.
In response to these incidents, theaters across the United States and beyond have begun implementing a range of precautionary measures. These include mandatory parental supervision for younger viewers and, in some cases, outright bans on certain age groups during screenings. Sclama emphasized the importance of maintaining an enjoyable atmosphere for all attendees. “We want you to be excited for the movie, but in a way that’s respectful to everyone,” she stated.
B&B Theatres is committed to monitoring the situation closely, striving to ensure that all patrons can enjoy the cinematic experience without disruption. As the popularity of ‘A Minecraft Movie’ continues to soar, the industry remains vigilant, balancing excitement with responsibility in the theater environment.
