NDreams co-founder Patrick O’Luanaigh stepping down as CEO

The landscape of virtual reality is poised for a new chapter as Patrick O’Luanaigh, co-founder of NDreams, prepares to transition from his role as CEO to that of Chairman, effective June 1st. This strategic shift will see Tom Gillo, the current Chief Development Officer, stepping into the chief executive position.

Reflections on a Journey

O’Luanaigh, who established NDreams in 2006 alongside Tamsin O’Luanaigh, expressed his pride in the company’s evolution from humble beginnings. “I am incredibly proud of what we have built at NDreams since Tammy and I rented a tiny office in 2006 and took the plunge,” he remarked. His journey has been marked by challenges and triumphs, highlighting the potential that still lies ahead in the realms of virtual and mixed reality, which he believes are still in their infancy.

As he steps into his new role, O’Luanaigh is optimistic about the future of NDreams. “From a new vantage point as Chairman, I’m excited to see NDreams reach even greater heights under Tom’s capable leadership,” he added, signaling a commitment to the company’s ongoing growth and innovation.

Continuity and Legacy

Tom Gillo, who has been with NDreams for a decade, expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm for taking on the CEO role. “It’s an honour to succeed Patrick as NDreams’ CEO. He and I go back a long way – all the way to PlayStation Home days,” Gillo stated. He described his time at NDreams as the defining chapter of his career and emphasized the privilege of continuing to build upon the legacy established by O’Luanaigh.

In 2023, NDreams was acquired by Aonic Group for 0 million, a move that underscored the growing interest in the virtual reality sector. However, the company faced challenges shortly thereafter, laying off 17.5 percent of its workforce nearly a year post-acquisition. This transition in leadership comes at a pivotal moment as NDreams navigates the complexities of the evolving market while aiming to harness its potential for future growth.
