New Black Ops 7 update adds just one simple thing, but it fixes Endgame’s biggest issue

A recent update for Call of Duty Black Ops 7 has introduced a micro patch that, while seemingly minor, addresses a significant concern for players engaged in the new Endgame mode. This extraction-based epilogue to the campaign has been criticized for its lack of disconnect protection, a glaring oversight considering that failing to extract safely not only diminishes your Combat Rating but resets it entirely to zero.

Enhancements to Endgame Experience

While my initial impressions of Endgame and the preceding campaign have been less than favorable—detailed in my Black Ops 7 review—there remains a glimmer of excitement for those who persevere through the grind. The challenge of reaching the maximum Combat Rating of 60 is daunting, and the frustration of losing hard-earned progress due to external factors is palpable. It’s one thing to miscalculate an escape from Avalon or engage too many foes, but it’s another to face setbacks from power outages, internet disruptions, server errors, or game crashes.

Fortunately, Treyarch has stepped in with a timely solution. According to the patch notes, “When you deploy to Avalon, we’ll snapshot your Combat Rating at the start of the match.” This means that players can now earn progress and extract to enhance their Combat Rating without the fear of losing it all to an unforeseen disconnect. If such an event occurs, players will begin their next match with the Combat Rating they had at the start of the previous match, allowing them to continue their journey towards that coveted CR 60.

The studio has also indicated that they are “exploring additional and more robust forms of disconnect protection” for future updates, which bodes well for the community.

In addition to this crucial fix, Treyarch’s decision to make Endgame accessible to all BO7 players, irrespective of their campaign experience, is a commendable move. However, the lingering issue of repetitive gameplay remains. The upcoming Season 1 promises new world events for Endgame, including the return of a giant robot from Black Ops 2’s Origins Zombies map—an exciting development that could inject much-needed variety into the gameplay.
