Fortnite’s Latest Update Brings Nostalgia and New Features
In a significant shift for the beloved battle royale game, Fortnite has bid farewell to its Ballistic mode as of today, paving the way for an update that infuses a touch of nostalgia into the Festival experience. The spotlight now shines on Laufey, the latest addition to the Icon series, inviting players to engage in a unique musical experience reminiscent of classic rhythm games.
Starting Thursday, April 16, players can now immerse themselves in the Festival with new performance options. The introduction of the Mic Vocals feature allows participants to “sing along in real time” using any compatible microphone on PC and Console. This unexpected twist adds a fresh layer of interactivity that many may not have anticipated for a game primarily known for its competitive gameplay.
Additionally, the update introduces Pro Drums, enabling players to utilize a Rock Band 4 drum kit, allowing them to relive the exhilarating moments of the rhythm game era. While the gameplay mechanics prevent players from physically moving while drumming, vocalists can now freely navigate the stage, adjusting their positions within the Jam Ring to enhance their performance.
Meanwhile, the update also marks the commencement of Act 2 of the Showdown event in the battle royale mode. This iteration shifts the focus from faction battles to a head-to-head challenge featuring two iconic characters: Jules and Dasha. Players are encouraged to align with their chosen character, completing specific actions during matches to unlock rewards for their team and strive for victory in the Showdown.
In a noteworthy development, the mode that laid the foundation for Fortnite’s success, Save The World, is now available as a free-to-play option for all players. This change eliminates the need for a purchase to access the single-player component of the game, which eventually evolved into the Fortnite phenomenon we know today.
These exciting updates are now live in-game, following the morning release on April 16, inviting players to explore new dimensions of gameplay and nostalgia within the Fortnite universe.
