Nexon Investigates AI-Generated Content in Marketing Campaign
Korean gaming powerhouse Nexon has embarked on an inquiry into a series of advertisements for its upcoming title, The First Descendant, which are suspected of incorporating AI-generated elements. The company took to Twitter to announce its investigation into this marketing strategy, which has garnered attention on TikTok.
The catalyst for this scrutiny was a post by Reddit user iHardlyTriHard, who highlighted four specific adverts on TikTok that seemed to utilize AI content. A notable point of contention arose when one of these videos featured the likeness of influencer DanieltheDemon. In response to a TikTok news post, he expressed his discontent, stating that he had no connection to The First Descendant. Furthermore, he alleged that the advert misappropriated content from a viral video, manipulating his voice and facial movements through AI technology without his consent.
While Nexon has not yet addressed this particular claim, they did acknowledge the broader concerns surrounding the advertisements. “We have become aware of cases where the circumstances surrounding the production of certain submitted videos appear inappropriate,” the company stated. They emphasized their commitment to a thorough investigation in collaboration with TikTok to ascertain the facts surrounding the matter.
Nexon also expressed regret for the delay in their communication, citing that the review process is taking longer than anticipated. They assured stakeholders that once the verification is complete, they will provide updates through an official notice, reinforcing their dedication to transparency in this evolving situation.
