Enthusiasts Bring Classic Console Games to Modern Devices
An enthusiast known as Odrannnn has recently unveiled an unofficial native port of the beloved classic game Metroid Prime. This port is now available for Android, Windows, and Linux systems, offering fans a new way to experience this iconic title without the need for an emulator.
On the Android platform, players can enjoy touch controls that allow for precise aiming by simply swiping a finger across the screen. The port also includes intuitive radial menus for switching weapons and visors, as well as gesture-based controls for manipulating the in-game map.
Notably, this port supports widescreen displays, adjustable field of view, mods, and even save transfers from the Dolphin emulator. While the frame rate is uncapped, the game’s core logic remains fixed to ensure that physics and animations retain their original feel. Players can also opt to skip cutscenes and make individual gameplay tweaks, such as speeding up Samus’s transformation into the Morph Ball.
To run this port on a smartphone, users will need a device running Android 9 or newer with ARM64 support. Additionally, players must provide their own copy of the American version of Metroid Prime 1.00 for the GameCube, ensuring a seamless and authentic gaming experience.
