Overwatch’s new mech hero is the sword-and-board sequel to D.Va, except her code isn’t ‘a plate of spaghetti’ under the hood

In 2018, Blizzard Entertainment shared an amusing insight into the inner workings of its beloved mech hero, D.Va. Game director Aaron Keller described her programming as akin to a “plate of spaghetti,” highlighting the complexities and quirks that arise when she transitions out of her mech. This unique design has led to a series of amusing bugs and unexpected gameplay experiences.

D.Mon: A New Force in the MEKA Squad

Joining the ranks of the MEKA Squad, which D.Va leads, is D.Mon—a character designed with sturdiness and versatility in mind. Unlike her agile counterpart, D.Mon remains grounded while still possessing the ability to dash in any direction, albeit with a limited fuel resource. Her combat style is enhanced by a mounted machine gun, enabling her to engage enemies from a distance before closing in for a more personal confrontation.

When D.Mon raises her shield, she transforms into a formidable presence on the battlefield, reminiscent of Reinhardt but with a speed advantage and a unique charge ability that can send foes tumbling back or even off ledges.

D.Mon’s ultimate ability, Limit Break, is poised to make her a sought-after choice in team compositions. This powerful move unleashes a whirlwind slash with her sword, creating vulnerabilities in enemies that lead to increased damage taken. Additionally, it grants her a significant boost in overhealth, making her a dangerous ally for damage-dealing heroes who can swiftly exploit the debuff.

One of the standout moments in D.Mon’s gameplay occurs when she is ejected from her mech, armed only with the machine gun. The animation of her mech’s limbs flying in to reassemble is reminiscent of classic animated series like Voltron, adding a layer of excitement and anticipation for players. This captivating detail leaves fans wondering if Blizzard might introduce more members of the MEKA Squad in the future.

D.Mon is set to make her debut with the launch of season 4 on August 11, promising to bring a fresh dynamic to the Overwatch universe.
