PC Gamer’s ‘first can’t-miss cozy game of 2026’ has gone missing on Steam, and some players think Tetris is to blame

PC Gamer’s Mollie Taylor recently praised the Starsand Island demo she experienced in December 2025, while fellow gaming enthusiast Lauren Morton expressed even stronger sentiments in February, labeling it as “the first can’t-miss cozy game of 2026.” However, for those eager to dive into this enchanting world, a visit to Steam reveals an unexpected absence: the game is currently unavailable.

Developer’s Explanation

Seed Sparkle Lab, the creative force behind Starsand Island, took to X to clarify the situation. They disclosed that “certain core visual elements from a classic title were used without proper authorization within our mini-game section,” attributing this oversight to a lapse during the planning phase. The studio expressed sincere apologies for the error.

Fans on the Starsand Island subreddit speculate that the classic title in question might be Tetris. While this remains unconfirmed, a streamer’s remark during a recent gameplay video—”Is this Tetris?”—certainly adds to the intrigue.

Next Steps for Players

In light of these developments, Seed Sparkle has opted to “temporarily delist” Starsand Island. The team is diligently working on a new build that will remove the contentious content. Once this revised version receives approval, the game will return to the digital shelves, and all current owners will be rewarded with the “Shining Star” outfit set as compensation. Importantly, players can rest assured that their progress will remain intact; they will simply update their game and continue their adventure seamlessly.

To prevent similar issues in the future, the studio has announced that it is enhancing its internal review and auditing processes. This marks the second unusual incident for Starsand Island since its February launch; the first was a wave of fake positive user reviews, which Seed Sparkle promptly denounced, urging the responsible parties to cease their actions.

As of now, a specific return date for Starsand Island on Steam has yet to be disclosed, although it remains available for purchase on the Xbox Store.
