Developers Double Eleven have delivered a well-executed port that allows players to immerse themselves in the Wild West from the comfort of their own setups.
Performance and Compatibility
Upon testing the game on an Asus ROG Ally X, I started with low settings, which ran seamlessly. As I delved deeper, I adjusted the settings to the high-quality preset with FSR AA, opting for a smoother visual experience over the native FXAA. The results were impressive, maintaining a steady frame rate of just under 50 fps throughout my gameplay.
Transitioning to a high-end gaming rig equipped with a Core i7 14700KF and RTX 4080 Super, I cranked every setting to its maximum. The game effortlessly hit the 144 fps cap, and with the addition of Frame Generation, it soared to an astonishing 200 fps.
Visuals and Technical Considerations
While the port excels in performance, there are areas where it could have been enhanced. The character and environment meshes hold up reasonably well, yet the animations feel somewhat dated, and the textures appear lackluster. Although the absence of Intel’s XeSS upscaler and AMD’s frame generation technology is noticeable, it seems that modders may soon address these shortcomings.
Despite some criticisms regarding the price point, the launcher, and the necessity of a Rockstar account, these factors do not overshadow the quality of the port itself. It is a relief to experience a game that runs smoothly without the need for extensive tinkering with settings, especially in an era where many recent releases have struggled with performance issues.
