Red Dead Redemption PC Gets New Update And Patch Notes

A fresh patch for Red Dead Redemption has been rolled out by Rockstar Games, coinciding with a festive Christmas-themed event month in Red Dead Online. This update brings a few notable enhancements, as detailed in the accompanying patch notes shared by the company.

After a long-awaited arrival on PC in October, following a 14-year hiatus, the classic western title had remained relatively quiet until this recent update on December 3rd. While the patch is modest in size, it introduces several improvements and adjustments. Notably, this update does not extend to the PS4, PS5, or Switch versions of the game. The patch notes released by Rockstar are somewhat general but provide insight into the changes made.

Patch Notes

[December 3, 2024] – General

  • Fixed an issue that resulted in exterior lighting not displaying correctly during interior cutscenes.
  • Improved frame pacing during cutscenes.
  • Enhanced Dynamic Resolution Scaling (DRS) functionality.
  • General fixes and improvements to stability.

The resolution of frame pacing issues and enhancements to Dynamic Resolution Scaling are particularly welcome. Players encountering any further issues are encouraged to reach out to Rockstar through their support site.

Given the game’s age and its relatively modest system requirements, performance at launch was commendable. While the game supports upscalers like DLSS and FSR, their necessity pales in comparison to that of its sequel. Overall, Double Eleven has successfully adapted the game for PC, making it the premier platform for experiencing both the original title and its downloadable content.

As we await the upcoming monthly gaming charts, it will be intriguing to see how the PC version has fared. It has already shown strong performance on the Steam charts and has garnered positive feedback from fans, particularly those using the Steam Deck. We will provide updates once the charts are released.
