Rematch players are flopping about like schools of flying fish because—and I tested this—it’s actually faster

Sloclap’s latest offering, Rematch, is making waves in the gaming community, and for good reason. This visually stunning football game marries the studio’s expertise in fighting mechanics with an engaging football experience. While minor issues with lag and netcode have been noted, players are finding joy in the gameplay.

Unconventional Strategies Emerge

As players delve deeper into the game, some peculiar phenomena have begun to surface. Observers have likened groups of players to schools of flying fish, exhibiting a unique form of movement that transforms Sloclap’s polished visuals into a comical spectacle. A recent post on the game’s subreddit captures this sentiment perfectly:

Jumping being faster than running just doesn’t feel right from r/Rematch

What may initially appear as a humorous meme has revealed itself to be a surprisingly effective strategy. After conducting personal tests in the freeplay mode, I discovered that jumping can indeed outpace traditional running. Here are the results from my stopwatch trials:

  • Sprinting: 8.07 seconds
  • Sprinting (Extra Effort): 7.58 seconds
  • Flopping: 7.13 seconds

This indicates a notable difference of nearly one full second. It’s worth mentioning that while flopping can be challenging to control, it still managed to outperform standard running by a significant margin. Even my most erratic attempts at diving clocked in at 7.42 seconds, which was faster than my best extra effort sprint time of 7.55 seconds.

For those intrigued, here’s a complete list of my recorded times:

While flopping may slightly drain stamina faster than running—typically consuming about a quarter of the stamina bar compared to the full depletion from diving—it remains the fastest method to traverse the field. As players continue to explore these unconventional tactics, one can only speculate that a hotfix from Sloclap may be on the horizon to address this newfound strategy.
