Roguelike clean ’em up game Scrubbin’ Trubble announced for PC

Odd Object, a newly established studio helmed by industry veterans Stevie Hryciw, known for his work on The Indie Game Legend 3D and Catacomb Kids, alongside Tyriq Plummer, celebrated for his contributions to Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer featuring The Legend of Zelda, has unveiled their latest project: Scrubbin’ Trubble. This innovative “roguelike clean ’em up” game is set to make its debut on PC via Steam in 2025.

According to Odd Object, Scrubbin’ Trubble invites players to engage in a unique blend of cleaning and combat. Players can tackle grime-ridden foes solo or join forces in cooperative play for up to four participants. The game draws inspiration from the aesthetics of action RPGs and hack-and-slash brawlers, creating an experience where cleaning and battling intertwine seamlessly.

In Scrubbin’ Trubble, players must embrace the messiness of their task. They can select from a diverse array of RPG-inspired classes, each offering a distinct approach to tackling the filth. Options include:

  • Bubbaladin: An absorbent close-range attacker.
  • Bleacher: A long-range stain-cleaning sniper.
  • Washbuckler: A character who damages and pushes back enemies with a splash.

As players navigate through the randomized floors of The House, they will encounter various filth-fueled adversaries. Success in combat not only leads to high scores but also allows for character upgrades based on performance. However, reaching the end of a run means facing one of the formidable Four Filths of the Apocalypse. Caution is advised, as a complete party wipe results in a game over, necessitating a fresh start.

Key Features

  • Solo or cooperative play for up to four players, both locally and online.
  • Six distinct classes, each with unique skills and strengths to enhance team dynamics.
  • Character and attack upgrades that introduce new effects and powers.
  • Engage with pun-riddled Nasties like Mildude, Asbeastos, and Refusphynx.
  • Utilize equipment and items such as the “Wiper Rifle” and “Splash Bang” to vanquish foes.
  • An accessible learning curve paired with quick-session design, catering to both short and extended gaming experiences.
