Sales revenue dips at CD Projekt for 2024, but profitability has increased

A recent financial report from CD Projekt reveals the impact of a quieter release schedule on the company’s balance sheet. For the 2024 financial year, the Polish gaming powerhouse recorded sales revenue of zł985 million (4.5 million), marking a 17 percent decrease compared to the previous year. A significant portion of this revenue, totaling zł588.8 million (2 million), was derived from the enduring popularity of Cyberpunk 2077 and its Phantom Liberty expansion.

Despite the dip in sales, CD Projekt’s net profit saw a modest decline of 2.5 percent, settling at zł469.9 million (1.4 million). Interestingly, the company’s net profit margin improved, rising from 39.1 percent to 47.7 percent. This increase can largely be attributed to the performance of CD Projekt Red, the studio responsible for the majority of the company’s profitability, boasting an impressive profit margin of 58.5 percent. In contrast, GOG, another segment of the company, reported a significantly lower margin of 0.6 percent.

Insights from Leadership

“Both of our franchises wrapped up an excellent year,” stated CFO Piotr Nielubowicz. He emphasized that the results were primarily driven by the sales of Cyberpunk 2077, which, alongside its Phantom Liberty expansion, generated nearly 600 million PLN in earnings. He also noted the sustained interest in The Witcher 3, which, despite being a decade old, continues to attract players and provide a reliable revenue stream. “We are very satisfied with the fact that, even in the absence of any major launch, the past year was the third best in the Group’s history in terms of net profit,” he added.

Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski shared additional insights into the company’s future plans. “This year, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will appear on macOS, allowing us to reach a new group of gamers and further expand the Night City community,” he explained. Furthermore, he revealed that the company is actively working on expanding the Cyberpunk universe, with a new animation project currently in development, set to be released on Netflix in 2024. “And that’s just some of what we have in store,” he concluded, hinting at exciting prospects ahead for the company and its dedicated fanbase.
