PC Gaming on Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
Mobile chips are evolving to be more powerful for gaming, as seen with Ubisoft and Capcom releasing modern games like Assassin’s Creed and Resident Evil for the latest Apple iPhones. With Microsoft’s new Copilot+ PCs featuring Arm-based Snapdragon chips, the flagship Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is also worth exploring for PC gaming.
YouTube creator ETA PRIME recently delved into PC gaming on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. Using the Winlator emulator modded to support the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, games like Undertale, Far Cry, Bioshock, and Fallout 4 were put to the test.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip in the Galaxy S24 Ultra offers 25% improved performance and power efficiency over its predecessor, with support for hardware-accelerated ray-tracing and Unreal Engine 5.2.
Despite running on an emulator, Fallout 4 achieves an average of 50-60 FPS at 720p, double the speed of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. Far Cry also runs at a similar frame rate, while Undertale performs flawlessly. BioShock Remastered experiences intermittent freezing, hindering gameplay.
This exploration of PC gaming on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra highlights the potential for native ports of PC titles in the mobile gaming market. It also opens up possibilities for Bethesda to expand their game releases to another platform, perhaps even Skyrim.
