Steam indie hit Meccha Chameleon made more money than any other PC game last month apart from Fortnite, according to new data

Meccha Chameleon Soars to New Heights

The indie sensation, Meccha Chameleon, has taken the gaming world by storm, emerging as the second-highest-grossing PC game in June, trailing only behind the colossal Fortnite. The phenomenon of going viral has proven to be a boon for indie games, with titles like Peak, Among Us, R.E.P.O, and Lethal Company experiencing similar surges in popularity. Meccha Chameleon has joined this elite group, achieving remarkable sales figures that are hard to ignore.

In its first two weeks alone, the game sold an astonishing 7 million copies, and within just a month, that number skyrocketed to 15 million. This meteoric rise not only marks it as the fastest-selling game of 2026 but also positions it as the best-selling game of the year thus far. If its current trajectory continues, it stands a solid chance of maintaining this title—at least until the much-anticipated release of GTA 6, which is expected to dominate the market.

With such impressive sales, it’s no surprise that Meccha Chameleon has generated significant revenue. According to data from Newzoo, as reported by Gamesindustry, it was the second-biggest PC game in June 2026 in terms of revenue, just behind Fortnite. Priced at a modest .99, which is less than the cost of the most basic bundle of V-Bucks, this achievement is particularly noteworthy.

In an interesting twist, Fortnite, which had slipped to third place in May, made a strong comeback with the launch of Chapter 7 Season 3, reclaiming its top position. Meanwhile, Forza Horizon 6, which dominated in May, saw a drop of five spots following the initial launch wave.

However, the landscape of gaming can be unpredictable. In a rather ironic turn of events, clones of Meccha Chameleon on Roblox have reportedly surpassed the original in terms of player count, showcasing the challenges indie developers face in a competitive market.
