Surrealist Documentary Game about Climate Crisis Atuel Lands on Android

What Do You Do in Atuel?

Atuel explores the unique relationship between people and the environment in western Argentina, specifically the Cuyo desert region. It integrates real-life testimonies with fluid, dreamlike gameplay. You move through vast, surreal landscapes that echo the actual topography of the Atuel River Valley and the Cuyo desert. You become part of it, shapeshifting into animals, elements of the ecosystem, and even the Atuel river itself. Along the journey, you hear the voices of historians, biologists, geologists, and local residents sharing insights on the region’s past, present, and future. The narrative reflects on the global climate crisis and humanity’s connection to land and water. Take a look at the game here.

It’s Now Out

The game has been developed in collaboration with international filmmakers from The 12.01 Project. Santiago Franzani, the lead artist and developer, describes it as a project designed to feel like a dream rather than a conventional documentary. The game abandons strict realism, instead having a poetic and emotional space where stories are told through movement, shape, and sound. You can experience a kaleidoscopic narrative that tells the fragile and intimate relationship we humans share with the environment. Atuel is free to play, and the game has full controller support. So, check out the game on the Google Play Store.
