Take-Two CEO hints at GTA 6 release for PC

Take-Two’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, recently shared insights regarding the much-anticipated GTA 6, suggesting that a PC launch may be on the horizon, following the trend established by previous Rockstar titles. Currently, the game is confirmed for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, but the expanding PC market indicates that Take-Two could be preparing for a broader multi-platform rollout.

Strategic Platform Releases

In an interview with IGN, Zelnick elaborated on Take-Two’s typical strategy regarding game launches. While some titles, such as Civilization 7, have debuted across multiple platforms, this approach is not always the norm. Notably, Rockstar has historically released games on select platforms first before eventually transitioning to others. This pattern has been evident in the Red Dead Redemption series, where Red Dead Redemption 2 was initially available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, only to arrive on PC the following year. Similarly, Grand Theft Auto V saw its PC version released nearly two years post-launch.

Given this historical context, it seems likely that GTA 6 will eventually make its way to PC, especially considering the game’s immense popularity and the growing dominance of the PC gaming market.

Zelnick acknowledged the increasing significance of PC gaming, noting, “We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see that trend continue.” Despite this acknowledgment, Take-Two remains committed to its current launch strategy, with GTA 6 set to debut on consoles first, potentially followed by a PC release. Zelnick appears unfazed by this plan, suggesting that GTA 6 could serve as a compelling reason for consumers to invest in consoles, rather than opting for PC.

“When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles,” Zelnick stated. “And I think that will happen this year. I don’t think tariffs are going to be our friend, but I think there will be a meaningful uptick in console sales in calendar 25 because of the release schedule, not just coming from us, but coming from others.”

The allure of GTA 6 is such that players eager to experience the game are likely to find a way to do so, even if it means purchasing a new console. The series has a profound influence, and many fans may be poised to invest in consoles specifically to play GTA 6.

Should the game eventually transition to PC, it is expected that a significant number of players would be willing to repurchase it, drawn by the prospect of engaging with mods and other exclusive features available on the platform.

While Take-Two has yet to officially confirm a PC launch for GTA 6, the prevailing sentiment suggests that a successful console debut will likely be followed by a PC release. Enthusiasts are encouraged to stay tuned for further updates.
