The first Hades 2 patch gives us exactly what we wanted: a new ending

Many players, including myself, have dedicated countless hours to Hades 2 during its early access phase, and the time spent since its official release has been equally substantial. Yet, despite my efforts, I have yet to uncover the game’s true ending. This is fortuitous for this discussion, as it allows me to avoid any spoilers while highlighting the recent enhancements made by developer Supergiant Games in the game’s inaugural post-launch patch—excluding hotfixes, of course.

Enhancements and Community Feedback

While Hades 2 has rightfully earned its place among the top roguelike games, it is not without its imperfections. Personally, I find the original title more compelling, largely due to its richer narrative, despite the combat mechanics being quite similar. Nevertheless, Supergiant has consistently demonstrated its commitment to listening to player feedback, making adjustments throughout both the early access period and post-launch updates.

The initial hotfix for Hades 2 addressed the frustrating Phantom mini-boss, which many players were surprised to see make it past early access. Additionally, the final boss received some adjustments. However, the first substantial patch goes even further, responding to community concerns regarding the true ending, which has been described by players as “unsatisfying” and “rushed,” with some claiming it “retroactively diminishes certain aspects of the game.” While I will refrain from revealing any spoilers, it appears that Supergiant’s revisions may enhance the experience for those who have yet to complete the game.

The modifications to the true ending introduce new events both preceding and following the conclusion, providing better narrative context. These additions include fresh artwork, portraits, and voice lines, ensuring they harmonize with the overall aesthetic of the game. However, this means players will need to achieve more Underworld clears to access the true ending, but I see this as an opportunity rather than a drawback. Furthermore, the main scenes leading up to the end credits have been “added to and revised,” aiming to deliver a more gratifying finale.

For those who have already witnessed the true ending, a new cauldron incantation allows players to revisit earlier points in the story, enabling them to experience the changes firsthand just before the game’s conclusion.

Beyond the adjustments to the ending and epilogue, the patch also includes a variety of balance tweaks. Eleven boons and blessings have received significant buffs, while one has been nerfed (apologies to Gigaros Dash). Various game elements, including keepsakes, Daedalus hammer upgrades, enemies, and special encounters, have also undergone refinements.

After engaging with numerous discussions regarding the disappointing ending of Hades 2, this initial patch has motivated me to finally complete the game. Although there remains potential for further adjustments before the full release (as Supergiant tends to refine everything during early access), I am eager to dive back in and experience the true ending for myself.

Patch 1 for Hades 2 is currently available for preview in beta, though a full release date for the complete patch has yet to be announced. For those interested, detailed patch notes and instructions on accessing the beta preview can be found here.
