Civilization, a renowned strategy series that began its journey on PC, has consistently evolved, particularly with the release of updates, expansions, and downloadable content (DLC). This trend continues with Civilization VI, which debuted in 2016 and has seen fresh content introduced up until 2023. Over the years, various bundles have emerged, allowing players to acquire specific content alongside the base game. Currently, the Civilization VI Platinum Edition is available for free at the Epic Games Store, but this offer lasts only until July 24, after which it will revert to its standard price of .99.

The Platinum Edition of Civ VI, while not encompassing every piece of content available for the game, offers significant value, especially when obtained for free. Players will need to utilize the Epic Games launcher, but the investment of time is undoubtedly worthwhile. Any additional content can always be added later to enhance the experience.
This bundle includes the foundational Civilization VI game, complemented by the Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm expansions, both of which introduce a wealth of new features and gameplay mechanics that are essential for a complete experience. Additionally, the Platinum Edition features six new civilizations, each accompanied by their respective scenario packs:
- Civilization VI – Vikings Scenario Pack
- Civilization VI – Poland Civilization & Scenario Pack
- Civilization VI – Australia Civilization & Scenario Pack
- Civilization VI – Persia and Macedon Civilization & Scenario Pack
- Civilization VI – Nubia Civilization & Scenario Pack
- Civilization VI – Khmer and Indonesia Civilization & Scenario Pack
With the inclusion of 18 civilizations and 19 leaders from the base game, players will find themselves immersed in a vast array of content for countless hours of strategic gameplay.

Upon its release, Civilization VI received a mix of reviews, but like its predecessors, it has garnered a loyal following over time. Many players, including myself, have invested hundreds of hours into the game, often returning for just one more match against friends. In a review from its launch, former Windows Central writer Jen Karner noted, “Civilization 6 delivers a nearly flawless 4X experience that gives you everything you already love about the Civilization series, while adding new and interesting facets.”
In 2019, the game made its way to Xbox, where Windows Central Executive Editor Jez Corden remarked, “I’ve spent several dozen hours with the game, and I still feel like I’ve just barely scratched the surface.” He also cautioned about the addictive nature of the gameplay, which can easily lead players to lose track of time.
With the current opportunity to acquire the Civilization VI Platinum Edition at no cost, it’s a chance that should not be overlooked. Even if the game does not resonate with you, there’s no financial risk involved in adding it to your library.
