This week in PC games: Crimson Desert and Death Stranding 2 plus frogs, cubes and one amazingly menacing chicken

Last week, our resident novelty-loving elder god, the Maw, consumed me, as Julian lamentably reported. However, I have returned to the waking world, and surprisingly, I’m not as odorous as one might expect. This marks my first successful escape through one of the Maw’s mouths, rather than through… less pleasant exits.

“ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?” I proclaimed, rising dramatically with my shoulders braced against the colossal gums, while remnants of rancid Call Of Duty DLC sloshed around my ankles. “MY OTHER CAR’S A MOTHRA,” I shouted, as my fellow RPS staff members quickly assembled with a jump net. “HERE ARE SOME NEW PC GAMES,” I added, launching myself into their waiting arms.

New Game Highlights

  • Bonnie Bear Saves Frogtime – A delightful blend of whimsy and strategy, this game invites players to engage in grid-based battles alongside charming frogs.
  • Deadline Delivery – Experience the chaotic world of errant apes and urgent exploding mail trucks in this fast-paced adventure.
  • Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War – This title offers a unique twist, allowing players to embody the bugs themselves, emphasizing the need to understand our foes to combat them effectively.
  • The Ratline – From Owlskip, this moustache-twirling document arranger has players tracking down Nazi fugitives in the 1970s, piecing together evidence and engaging in phone confrontations.
  • Everwind – An early access first-person survival RPG set in a procedurally generated world of floating islands and customizable airships.
  • Opus Magnum DLC – A fresh addition to the beloved engineering sim, featuring new writing, cutscenes, and music from original creator Matthew S. Burns.
  • Crawling Angels – A nostalgic nod to the ‘kill your boss’ games of yore, where players navigate a grotesque carnival to satisfy the whims of the smug Forever Chicken.
  • The Cube, Save Us – Not a follow-up to Curiosity, but an early access melee extraction game focused on infiltrating a massive sky cube for loot and potential salvation.
  • In Their Shoes – An ensemble slice-of-life game that reimagines visual novel mechanics, allowing players to delve into the intricate thoughts of each character.
  • Death Stranding 2: On The Beach – Finally making its way to PC, this title from Kojima has arrived, much to the delight of many, despite the long wait.
  • Crimson Desert – This action-RPG from the creators of Black Desert Online promises to charm some players while potentially driving others to distraction.
  • Briar Flame – A 2D dark fantasy action-platformer that captivates with its engaging mechanics and satisfying thwackiness.
  • We began the week with frogs, and we shall conclude it with them as well: Rubato is a vibrant 2D platformer filled with experimental elements that will surely resonate with older millennials.

In the Treehouse this week, several of us are immersed in Crimson Desert, while others are navigating the world of anime cars. A few are reflecting on classic games, and there are New Embargoed Things to explore, interviews to arrange, and an abundance of fried rice to consume—thanks to my overzealous cooking this weekend. One must ponder, how quickly does fried rice spoil? If I were to dispose of it down the lavatory, would there be repercussions? Or perhaps I could sneak it away in my trousers during a baseball game, reminiscent of The Great Escape? First, I’d need to locate a local baseball team.
