Tormented Souls II demo for PC now available

Publisher PQube and developer Dual Effect have announced the release of a demo for the highly anticipated sequel, Tormented Souls II, now available on PC via Steam. This demo offers players a glimpse into the chilling narrative and gameplay that awaits them.

The Story So Far…

Set against the backdrop of the unsettling events at Wildberger Hospital, the sequel follows Caroline Walker as she seeks a semblance of normalcy with her sister, Anna. However, Anna’s psyche is plagued by haunting visions of violence and death, which compel her to create disturbing drawings that soon manifest into terrifying realities. In a desperate attempt to save her sister from this torment, Caroline embarks on a journey to the remote town of Villa Hess, where a mysterious clinic lies hidden in the mountains of southern Chile. Yet, beneath the facade of the clinic’s warm and welcoming staff lurks a sinister truth, plunging the sisters into a new nightmare.

So What’s Included in the Demo?

The demo provides approximately 60 minutes of gameplay, beginning with the sisters’ arduous journey to Villa Hess and their arrival at the convent-turned-clinic, recommended by Caroline’s longtime friend and psychiatrist, Isabella. Upon arrival, they are greeted by the cheerful Sister Angelica, a member of the convent’s enigmatic sisterhood, which initially puts them at ease. However, the tranquility is shattered when Caroline awakens to find Anna missing. Following the sounds of her sister’s screams, Caroline rushes into a horrifying scene of abduction. As she struggles against her captors, the matriarch of the sisterhood, Mother Lucia, unveils a chilling plan to capture the Wildberger twins and continue the dark legacy of their grandfather, Noah. Regaining consciousness in the convent’s infirmary, Caroline must navigate the claustrophobic corridors of the facility in search of her sister, all while confronting an ancient evil lurking in the depths below.

An Insight Into Caroline’s New Look

Fans of the original Tormented Souls will appreciate the thoughtful evolution of Caroline Walker’s character design. The first installment was a homage to the iconic survival horror games of the 90s and early 2000s, characterized by their outlandish plots and memorable protagonists. Reflecting on the fashion trends of that era, the developers revisited Caroline’s design to ensure it resonated with the nostalgic aesthetics while also representing her growth as a character.

In Tormented Souls II, Caroline’s appearance has matured, embodying the role of a protective older sister. This transformation is evident in her color palette, featuring a striking blood-red dress that contrasts with the rugged leather of her jacket, allowing her to stand out against the game’s dark environments. The design retains key elements from the original, such as the dress and jacket combination, floral patterns, and bows, ensuring her silhouette remains recognizable. This approach mirrors the evolution seen in characters like The Prince from Prince of Persia, where familiar traits are enhanced to create a more formidable presence. The developers hope players will embrace this blend of nostalgia and innovation, with a nod to fans who might catch the reference to Alice Abernathy.

Tormented Souls II is set to launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG in 2025. A new trailer showcasing the game’s eerie atmosphere and storyline is available for viewing below.
