Two Warhammer 40,000 games will be delisted from Steam on Monday, and one of them is currently on a 90% discount

UK-based publisher Slitherine Software has made a significant announcement regarding its Warhammer 40,000 titles. Both Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon and Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach are set to be delisted from Steam on Monday, May 19. In a recent blog post, Slitherine informed fans of the impending removal, stating, “We want to inform you that the Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach and Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon franchises will soon be removed from Steam and our website.” The publisher confirmed that starting May 19th, these games and their downloadable content (DLCs) will no longer be available for purchase on these platforms.

However, players who already own the titles on Steam will still have the ability to download and play them as usual. For those considering a purchase before the delisting, it’s worth noting that Armageddon offers a 2D, top-down gameplay experience, while Sanctus Reach features 3D, grid-based battlefields. Both titles have garnered a ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam, with Armageddon receiving nearly 900 reviews and Sanctus Reach just over 1,100.

Critical Reception and Gameplay Insights

In a recent ranking by PC Gamer of all Warhammer 40,000 games, Sanctus Reach was placed at 36 out of 51. Jody MacGregor, the reviewer, described the game as “not bad, but basic,” emphasizing that while it fulfills its purpose, it lacks the depth found in other titles. Conversely, Armageddon ranked significantly higher at 17, with its 2D visuals effectively capturing the scale and intensity of a Warhammer 40,000 conflict. Set against a backdrop of a hive world ravaged by pollution, Armageddon presents players with intricate tactical scenarios that require thoughtful decision-making.

As players navigate through the game, they face strategic choices such as whether to divide their battlegroups or consolidate them, secure bridges or explore bombed-out buildings, and scout with walkers or fliers. This complexity adds a layer of engagement that has resonated well with the gaming community.

Currently, both Armageddon and its various DLCs are available at a remarkable 90% discount on Steam, allowing players to acquire the base game for just (£3.35). Including all DLCs raises the total to .89 (£8.43), making it an attractive offer for those looking to dive into the Warhammer universe.

While the delisting of these titles from Steam is disappointing for fans, there is a silver lining. The annual Warhammer Skulls event is approaching, which typically brings exciting announcements and reveals. Additionally, the development of Space Marine 3 has been confirmed, though players may need to wait a few years before stepping back into the iconic power armor of Titus.
