In a strategic move to bolster its presence in the gaming industry, French publishing powerhouse Ubisoft has appointed Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot as co-CEOs of its newly established subsidiary, backed by Tencent. This initiative marks a significant step in Ubisoft’s evolution, focusing on its flagship franchises.
Leadership Profiles
Christophe Derennes brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served as the managing director for Ubisoft’s North American operations since 1997. His deep understanding of the company’s dynamics and market strategies positions him well to lead this ambitious venture.
On the other hand, Charlie Guillemot, the son of Ubisoft co-founder Yves Guillemot, has a rich background in the gaming sector. He previously led Ubisoft’s Owlient studio and later ventured into the web3 gaming space by founding Unagi, a studio dedicated to innovative gaming experiences.
Focus on Iconic Franchises
This new subsidiary will oversee the development and expansion of Ubisoft’s core franchises, including Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry. With Tencent’s substantial investment of .25 billion, the division is poised to explore new horizons for these beloved titles.
Derennes articulated a clear vision for the future, stating, “Our long-term objective with this new subsidiary is to grow these iconic brands – while remaining loyal to their DNA – into experiences that are constantly enriching and surprising to our players.”
He further emphasized the transformation of these franchises, noting, “When we look at the evolution of Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry since their creation, we can see that they are no longer just games; they are universes with a host of new possibilities available to us.”
With a commitment to blending legacy and innovation, the new leadership aims to expand the reach of these franchises, ensuring they continue to captivate audiences and evolve in an ever-changing gaming landscape.
