Ubisoft insists XDefiant won’t be shut down after season four

In a recent statement that has quelled speculation, Mark Rubin, the executive producer of Ubisoft’s free-to-play shooter XDefiant, clarified the game’s future on social media. Addressing concerns raised by a Twitter user, @just4leaks2, who suggested that the title might face closure if player numbers do not improve, Rubin emphasized that there are no plans to discontinue the game after its fourth season.

Commitment to Improvement and Expansion

Rubin’s message was clear: “To be crystal clear there are NO plans to shut down after season 4.” He elaborated on the ongoing discussions within the team, stating that meetings have been held as recently as last week to strategize for Year 2 of XDefiant. The focus, he noted, is currently directed towards enhancing the technical aspects of the game, including netcode improvements, and enriching the content available in the upcoming Seasons three and four.

Despite acknowledging a decline in player numbers, Rubin attributed this to a deliberate choice to limit marketing efforts. “We have done very little marketing so yes our numbers are down,” he explained. This approach is intended to allow the development team the necessary time to refine the game before launching more extensive marketing campaigns aimed at attracting new players and re-engaging those who may have drifted away.

This marks the second occasion in recent months that Ubisoft San Francisco has had to dispel rumors regarding the longevity of XDefiant, reinforcing the company’s commitment to the game’s future and its player community.
