UK industry vet Tom Stone founds new studio

Tom Stone, a seasoned veteran of the UK gaming industry, has embarked on an exciting new venture with the establishment of Second Star Games. The announcement, made via a LinkedIn post, reveals that this fresh studio is nestled in the heart of Manchester and is already gearing up for its inaugural project, which is described as “a well-loved and globally-renowned IP.” Given Stone’s extensive background at TT Games, particularly his work on the beloved LEGO series, speculation abounds that the first title may draw inspiration from similar themes.

Building a Talented Team

Second Star Games is not starting from scratch; it boasts a “core team of industry veterans” who bring a wealth of experience to the table. However, the studio is actively seeking to expand its ranks by filling several key positions, indicating a commitment to growth and innovation in the gaming landscape.

Stone’s career trajectory is noteworthy. He served as the Managing Director of TT Games for nearly 18 years, from 2003 until 2020, before taking on the role of chairman at FuturLab, the creators behind PowerWash Simulator, in 2021. After three years, he departed from that position and has also been involved with Juno Capital Partners as managing director since 2021.

In his announcement, Stone expressed enthusiasm about the studio’s mission: “We’re thrilled to announce the launch of a new studio based in Manchester with a mission to become a world-leading developer and publisher of magical gaming experiences for young gamers and their families.” He further teased that the first game will indeed bring to life a cherished and globally recognized intellectual property, promising more details about both the partnership and the studio in the weeks to come.
