Upcoming train sim sequel shows off new tilting engine, and I wish my local rail was this cool

I can’t help but imagine the chaos that would ensue if a video game attempted to replicate an ordinary day with Merseyrail, the local railway service here in Liverpool, UK. With at least three trains likely to be canceled and the remaining ones overflowing with vaping teenagers, one might wish for a three-hour walk instead. To illustrate the situation, our previous trains were essentially repurposed buses before they were finally replaced last year. However, the upcoming Train Sim World 6 offers a refreshing escape, as highlighted in a recent blog post that takes players on a scenic journey through the German countryside, unveiling new trains set to debut in the game.

Exciting New Routes and Features

As the launch of Train Sim World 6 approaches, developer Dovetail Games is sharing insights about three routes included in the game. Among these is the Leipzig – Dresden line, recognized as the oldest long-distance railway in Germany. While some players may have explored portions of this route in the previous Dresden – Riesa add-on, this iteration doubles the experience, stretching an impressive 160 kilometers.

In the coming weeks, Dovetail Games will also unveil details about two additional routes: the Morristown line in the USA and the Riviera line in the UK. But today’s announcement brings even more excitement.

Among the highlights is the introduction of the BR 294 shunter locomotive, available in the deluxe and special editions of the game. Known as the V 90 series, these robust engines will be featured on the Bahnstrecke, either transporting freight within yards or facilitating the movement of trains between various facilities.

For those with a penchant for modern technology, the DB BR 411 ICE-T promises to be a thrilling addition. These contemporary passenger trains are designed to tilt up to eight degrees on the tracks, allowing them to achieve higher speeds than their traditional counterparts. Train Sim World 6 introduces a new variant of the ICE-T, adorned with a green stripe, but the most intriguing aspect will be the gameplay implications of manually tilting the GNT system.

Alongside these exciting features, five other new trains will also be available at launch. However, players should prepare for some challenges, as new faults will need to be addressed to maintain smooth operations. Keeping an eye on temporary speed restrictions and signal delays will be essential.

Train Sim World 6 is set to launch on Tuesday, September 30. Pre-orders are available now.
