Valve Welcomes Android Games on Steam

Valve has confirmed that Android games are now welcomed and supported on Steam. The company announced new Steam devices, including the Steam Frame headset, which also supports the same APKs that developers use for mobile and Meta Quest headsets.

It was previously revealed that the Steam Frame supports sideloading APKs, and now Valve is opening the door to Android games on Steam. This move is seen as a strategic decision to ensure that games available on Meta headsets can easily be ported to Steam, making life easier for developers.

Valve’s Jeremy Selan mentioned that the goal is for users to have a seamless experience, where they can download their titles on Steam and start playing without any hassle. The games should perform well on the Steam Frame, running natively on an Arm-based Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip.

Additionally, Valve’s Pierre-Loup Griffais hinted at the possibility of SteamOS running on a wider variety of Arm devices in the future, including laptops and handheld machines. This aligns with Valve’s interest in developing an Arm-based Steam OS device, such as a handheld, in the long term.

Overall, the introduction of Android games on Steam and the advancements in Arm-based technology with the Steam Frame suggest that Valve is making significant progress in expanding its platform and offerings.
