It has been quite some time since I navigated the murky depths of Helmgart’s sewers, and even longer since I wandered the vibrant streets of Ubersreik with friends. Nowadays, my adventures are mostly confined to the gritty atmosphere of Hive Tertium. Yet, I was taken aback to realize that a decade has passed since we first delved into the captivating world of Ubersreik in Vermintide. This series has delivered exceptional gaming experiences, each one deserving a spot among the finest Warhammer titles. Developer Fatshark seems to share this sentiment, as they prepare to commemorate the anniversary with the addition of a classic level to Vermintide 2.
Nostalgic Journeys Await
For those who may not yet be acquainted with the chaotic charm of Vermintide 2, the game invites players to embody a diverse cast of characters tasked with thwarting the relentless Skaven invasion. Whether you choose to fight as a stout dwarf or a cunning witch hunter, the mission remains clear: eradicate the evil and protect Reikland from its infestation.
The recent Well of Dreams update wrapped up the latest chapter of the saga, yet it left many players pondering the future of the game. The satisfaction of diffusing a warp bomb beneath the Elven realm of Athel Lithri was palpable, but it also raised questions about the next steps for the franchise. With endless possibilities on the horizon, few anticipated a nostalgic return to the past.
This November, players will have the opportunity to revisit the River Reik, a pivotal location from the original game. The upcoming expansion, Return to the Reik, has been reimagined for the sequel, introducing boat-based gameplay that features deck skirmishes, swaying platforms, and barge environments. It’s reminiscent of the adventurous spirit found in Black Flag, and this time, it’s not just a playful jest from 2021 but a genuine release set for 2025.
Before we embark on this journey, the Geheimnistnacht Event will return from Thursday, October 23, to Monday, November 3. This event promises double XP and quests that reward players with new portrait frames and weapon illusions—an enticing opportunity for those who, like me, may have taken a break from the game.
Once we reacquaint ourselves with the mechanics, another double XP period will coincide with the return of the River Reik, allowing us to indulge our piratical fantasies. Additionally, the Gifts of the Wolf-Father event will make a comeback in December.
Warhammer Vermintide 2 will launch Return to the Reik on Thursday, November 20. Players can download it in advance to kickstart their journey.
