Warhammer 40k Darktide is getting another new class, and I’m loading my toaster with hopium all over again

Anticipation Builds for New Character in Warhammer 40k Darktide

Disappointment lingered in the air following last year’s reveal of the Hive Scum for Warhammer 40k Darktide. While the game has garnered acclaim as one of the finest entries in the Warhammer 40k universe, it has notably underrepresented the Adeptus Mechanicus. As a long-time devotee of the machine god, my hopes were high for the introduction of a Mechanicus character, a sentiment shared by countless others. The reveal of the Hive Scum felt like a missed opportunity, yet recent news from developer Fatshark offers a glimmer of hope for 2026.

As expectations for additional characters continue to rise, the official confirmation of a new playable character is a welcome development. This announcement came as part of Fatshark’s comprehensive update on the past year, which highlighted 11 events, four major updates, and two DLC classes—though none featured the beloved Mechanicus. Nevertheless, the introduction of the Scab Plasma Gunner, the Power Falchion, and various balance adjustments and quality-of-life improvements reflect a commitment to enhancing the player experience.

Fatshark has indicated that the next class has been in development for some time, expressing eagerness to share more details when the moment is right. However, they also noted that another release will precede this new character, suggesting that fans will need to exercise patience. For those of us who align with the Mechanicus, waiting is a familiar practice; after all, it wasn’t until 2015 that official tabletop rules were introduced, yet I found ways to adapt my Imperial Guard forces to embody the tech adepts of the Omnissiah.

With the potential for a Mechanicus character in Darktide rekindling excitement, it’s worth considering the fit of such a character within the game’s gritty aesthetic and the broader Warhammer lore. While a Tech Priest may seem out of place, the need for a technical character is evident. Given that servitors are already represented as NPCs, a low-level Enginseer could seamlessly integrate into the game’s narrative.

As Fatshark prepares to unveil more information, the hope among Adeptus Mechanicus fans remains that this time, the reveal will be met with the enthusiasm it deserves, rather than disappointment.
