Beeper has made a notable return, following its merger with Texts.com under the umbrella of Automattic. This revitalized messaging platform offers users the convenience of accessing their chats across a multitude of services, including WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and Google Chat. A significant enhancement is the introduction of on-device connections, allowing for end-to-end encryption (E2EE) without the need to rely on Beeper Cloud.
Beeper to Eventually Drop Support for Beeper Cloud Accounts
The platform has announced a strategic shift towards supporting on-device accounts, enabling users to engage with various chat services directly from their devices. This approach eliminates the need to store personal information on Beeper Cloud servers, aligning with growing concerns around data privacy. In the long run, the company intends to phase out support for cloud-based messaging entirely.
Setting up on-device accounts will require users to log in each time they access the app on a new device. However, this method offers the advantage of E2EE on compatible platforms, enhancing security for users who prioritize privacy.
Currently, users can establish on-device accounts for a variety of platforms including:
- WhatsApp (and WhatsApp Business)
- Telegram
- Google Chat
- Messenger
- Signal
- X (formerly Twitter)
Notably, support for on-device accounts for Discord and Slack is still in the pipeline.
While the core features of the app remain free, Beeper has introduced a subscription model with the Beeper Plus plan, priced at .99 per month (approximately Rs. 860). This subscription unlocks a suite of premium features, including:
- Support for up to three accounts from the same network (totaling up to 10 accounts)
- Message scheduling (send later)
- Message reminders
- Custom app icons
- Voice message transcription
- Incognito mode for previewing chats without sending read receipts
For those who require even more flexibility, the “Beeper Plus Plus” plan is available for .99 per month (around Rs. 4,300), offering support for unlimited accounts. Existing users will benefit from access to 12 accounts at no additional cost, while early backers are rewarded with permanent access to Beeper Plus features free of charge.
