Facebook, Messenger, Instagram are down due to mass outage

An extensive outage affecting Meta’s suite of platforms, including Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram, has begun to show signs of resolution. Users who experienced disruptions on Friday morning are gradually regaining access to the services they rely on.

Meta’s Response to the Outage

In a timely update, Andy Stone, a communications representative for Meta, took to X to reassure users, stating, “We’re coming back, though it may take a bit of time for everything to be fully back to normal.” This message reflects the company’s commitment to restoring functionality as swiftly as possible.

Reports of the outage were widespread, with DownDetector.com, a platform that tracks service disruptions, indicating significant issues. Users primarily faced challenges with the Facebook app, difficulties logging into Facebook Messenger, and access problems with Instagram. The scale of the disruption was notable, with DownDetector.com documenting nearly 130,000 users affected on Facebook, approximately 20,000 on Messenger, and just over 10,000 on Instagram.

Additionally, smaller numbers of users reported issues with Meta’s other platforms, including WhatsApp and Threads. However, it is essential to recognize that the figures provided by DownDetector.com represent only those who actively reported their experiences. The actual number of individuals impacted by the outage could be significantly higher.

As Meta works diligently to rectify the situation, users are encouraged to remain patient while the company navigates the complexities of restoring full service across its platforms.
