Global outage hits Facebook, Instagram users

The outage prompted a wave of user concerns across social media platforms. One user noted that while their feed was operational, they were unable to access their profile. Another reported receiving an error message suggesting that the issue would be resolved shortly, encouraging users to try again in a few minutes. Complaints varied widely; some users found their home pages unresponsive, while others were unable to post stories. One individual expressed their confusion on X, stating, “I think Instagram is down. I’m only seeing the welcome page on my feed. No new content. What’s going on?”

Reports of Facebook issues were similarly widespread. One user lamented, “It’s 2 AM and my feed showed 2 posts, then errors, and now it won’t load again.” The outage appeared to be global in scope, with users from the UK to Tennessee voicing their frustrations. Another user shared an error message indicating, “Facebook is down globally with major interruptions to Instagram being reported. Users are getting the message ‘Account Temporarily Unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue.’ I can access FB via mobile, but not on my laptop. Anyone else?”

As of now, the cause of the outage remains unclear, and there has been no official communication from either Instagram or Facebook, nor from Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, regarding the ongoing issues.

How to fix issues with Facebook, Instagram?

For Facebook users encountering the ‘Account Temporarily Unavailable’ message, this could stem from a site outage or potentially a cache issue, or even a specific action taken against an individual profile. Suggested remedies include clearing the app or browser cache, or submitting an appeal through Facebook’s official support forms. However, given that the notification indicates a site problem, these user-end fixes may not be effective.

Instagram users are facing a variety of issues as well. If stories are not loading, users are advised to clear the cache, force close and reopen the app, or check their network connections. For those experiencing a blank feed, the recommended steps include force closing the app, logging out and back in, and verifying Wi-Fi or mobile data connectivity. Nevertheless, considering the reported global outage, it is likely that user-end fixes will not resolve the underlying issues affecting the platform.
