Kakao Corp. Faces Service Disruption Due to Network Error

Kakao Corp., the operator of South Korea’s dominant mobile messenger app, KakaoTalk, experienced a service disruption on Thursday. The outage lasted for more than an hour, affecting some users who were unable to log in to the platform from their personal computers.

The company attributed the issue to an unspecified “error” in its network system. Service was eventually restored around 12:20 p.m., according to a statement released by Kakao Corp.

This is not the first time KakaoTalk has faced such outages. In May, similar disruptions occurred, leading the government to order the company to address the issue within three months.

KakaoTalk boasts a user base of around 45 million monthly active users, making it a popular choice for communication in South Korea.
