Telegram to Launch Mini-App Store with Web3 Support
The messaging platform Telegram is gearing up to introduce a mini-app store that will support web3 pages, as announced by Pavel Durov, the company’s founder and chief executive. These mini-apps will operate within the Telegram platform and will offer integration with 20 different payment providers for seamless transactions.
Durov shared his excitement for the upcoming developments on his Telegram channel, stating that 2024 will be a landmark year for blockchain adoption, with millions of individuals embracing the technology. He emphasized Telegram’s role in this transformation and highlighted the platform’s commitment to enhancing user experience and security.
As part of their efforts to combat fraudulent activities in the crypto space, Telegram will implement new features such as displaying the registration month and primary country for public accounts, similar to Instagram. Additionally, organizations will have the ability to issue labels for channels through mini-apps, creating a decentralized marketplace for third-party verification.
Despite its previous association with the Toncoin (TON) blockchain, Telegram distanced itself from the project in 2020 following a legal dispute with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The Open Network, a community of developers, took over the management of the technology thereafter.
Interestingly, TON can still be sent by Telegram’s massive user base of 900 million without the need for lengthy wallet addresses, showcasing the platform’s commitment to user convenience and accessibility.
