Thousands affected as Monzo app hit by ‘technical issues’

Service Disruptions and Backup Solutions at Monzo

Monzo has acknowledged the emergence of technical issues impacting certain functionalities within its app, prompting the company to implement a temporary backup service designed to assist its customers during this period. On Wednesday afternoon, users logging into the Monzo app encountered a notification indicating that the company was actively investigating the problem.

While customers were still able to check their bank balances, some features were rendered inaccessible. Reports of service outages surged, with over 3,000 users noting difficulties via the DownDetector platform shortly after noon.

Despite these challenges, Monzo reassured its customers that essential operations remained functional. Users could continue to make card payments, withdraw cash, freeze their cards, and send or receive bank transfers. In a statement shared on the X social media platform, the company confirmed that it was in the process of rolling out a fix to restore full service.

A spokesperson for Monzo elaborated on the situation, stating, “We’re currently experiencing a technical issue and are working to resolve this as soon as possible. In the meantime, we’ve moved into our backup system, Monzo Stand-in, and customers can still do most things on their Monzo app including sending bank transfers and making card payments and ATM withdrawals.”
