Android 15 is now available for Pixels

Android 15 has officially begun its rollout to Pixel devices, introducing a suite of new privacy features, security enhancements, and improvements tailored for foldable phones and tablets. Although the operating system made its debut last month via the Android Open Source Project, it was not immediately available for Pixel devices or other prominent Android models. Today, Google has confirmed that the update is now accessible to Pixel users, accompanied by a series of feature drops specifically for these devices.

New Features and Enhancements

Among the standout features in Android 15 is the innovative “private space” functionality. This allows users to create a secure area for apps that they prefer to keep discreet, such as social media, dating, or banking applications. Apps designated for this private space will remain invisible in recent apps, notifications, and settings. Accessing this hidden area requires additional authentication, and intriguingly, users can even conceal the existence of the private space from the main view of their device.

For those utilizing foldable devices and tablets, Android 15 introduces the ability to pin and unpin the taskbar, facilitating easier access to applications. Users can also establish app pairings for frequently used applications, allowing them to launch these combinations with a single icon.

In addition to these features, a broader range of devices running various versions of Android will benefit from the newly introduced Theft Detection Lock. This intelligent feature utilizes AI to automatically lock the device if it suspects theft. Furthermore, Google is rolling out a Remote Lock option, enabling users to secure their phones using another Android device, their phone number, and a straightforward security check. The company anticipates that these features will be available on most devices running Android 10 and newer, with some users already experiencing them.

For those eager to delve deeper into the capabilities of Android 15, a comprehensive overview of its key features is available. Additionally, Google is initiating a new Pixel feature drop for October, which includes enhancements such as Night Sight for Instagram, aimed at improving low-light photography, and expanded controls for the Audio Magic Eraser. In the coming weeks, Google plans to introduce a convenient feature that allows users to transfer media between a Pixel Tablet and a Pixel phone simply by bringing the devices close together.
