Android 15 users facing notification bug on Windows Phone Link app

Android 15 users are currently navigating a frustrating notification challenge with the Windows Phone Link app, a tool designed by Microsoft to facilitate seamless collaboration between devices. Following the installation of the latest major upgrade, users have reported that the app is now limited in its ability to display certain notifications.

Understanding the Issue

The Windows Phone Link app serves as a bridge, allowing users to connect their Windows PC to their Android phones. This connection enables a range of functionalities, including viewing notifications, receiving calls, replying to messages, searching for contacts, and managing phone applications directly from a PC, all without the need for additional equipment.

However, the recent Android 15 update has introduced complications. Reports indicate that the update automatically conceals notifications from untrusted apps, a measure intended to protect sensitive information from being displayed on the device’s screen. Specifically, Android 15 restricts third-party applications from accessing notifications deemed “sensitive,” such as those containing two-factor authentication codes. Only trusted or system applications are permitted access to these notifications.

While this feature enhances security, it has inadvertently caused significant issues for the Windows Phone Link app. Mishaal Rahman, a noted observer of Android developments, highlighted the problem, stating, “With the latest Android updates, Phone Link no longer shows notifications that contain sensitive details for your protection.”

Device-Specific Workarounds

Interestingly, the Phone Link app can circumvent this restriction on Samsung devices running One UI 6.1.1 or later. Unfortunately, users of other Android devices continue to face challenges. Many have attempted common troubleshooting methods, such as reinstalling the app and rebooting their phones, but these efforts have proven ineffective.

As the situation stands, users are left hoping that Google will address this notification issue in forthcoming updates, restoring the functionality that many have come to rely on. The ongoing dialogue among users and tech observers suggests a keen interest in finding a resolution to this unexpected hurdle.
