While Android 15 is still on the horizon, whispers of Android 16 are beginning to circulate, with intriguing features recently unveiled. One of the standout additions is the introduction of Priority Modes, a refined iteration of the existing Do Not Disturb functionality. This enhancement, discovered by Android Authority in the latest Android 15 QPR 1 beta, allows users to create multiple custom Priority Modes, each uniquely named and configured with its own settings and icon.
Users will have the flexibility to determine when these modes activate—be it during bedtime or scheduled calendar events—and can specify which notifications, if any, are permitted to break through the silence. Furthermore, Priority Modes can be tailored to modify the device’s visual experience, including options to disable the always-on display, switch the screen to black and white, and dim the wallpaper, among other features.
In addition to Priority Modes, Android Authority has also uncovered a potential new feature involving a ‘Bubble’ option. This feature allows users to long-press an app icon on the home screen, which then launches the app in a bubble format, facilitating a more dynamic multitasking experience. Notably, this functionality appears to be mandatory for app developers, meaning it will be available across the board.
However, it’s important to note that this bubble feature is not yet fully operational in the current Android 15 beta; it required some experimentation to activate. As with the Priority Modes, the timeline for the official launch of this feature remains uncertain, but speculation suggests it may debut with Android 16, marking a significant update for the platform.
