Google is in the process of enhancing its QR code scanning experience on Android devices, as reported by 9to5Google. This update, which is gradually being rolled out, introduces a more user-friendly interface that aims to streamline interactions following a QR code scan.

  • The revamped link menu now offers users additional options such as Copy text and Share, alongside the traditional Open button.
  • In the viewfinder interface, the “Scan QR code” label has been minimized, and a flash icon has been positioned at the bottom, along with a new option to Scan from photo.
  • This update builds on previous enhancements that increased the functionality of QR codes within the Circle to Search feature on Android, allowing for more seamless interactions.

With this latest redesign, the QR code viewfinder now provides a clearer indication of where scanned links will direct users, such as to the Chrome browser. This improvement is particularly beneficial as it enhances the overall scanning experience, making it more intuitive and efficient.

Last fall, Google introduced the Circle to Search feature, which utilizes AI-driven visual lookup capabilities to quickly identify barcodes and QR codes. Once a code is scanned, users receive a chip containing a direct link to the relevant website, eliminating the need for manual input or highlighting.

Earlier this year, Google also made strides in its QR code ecosystem with the introduction of Quick Share. After extensive testing, this feature allows users to effortlessly share files by displaying a QR code that others can scan to access the shared content.
