Does your Google Messages app keep crashing? This could be the reason why

The latest beta version of the Google Messages app has become a source of frustration for many users, as reports indicate that the app crashes upon opening for some individuals. This issue has been widely discussed on platforms like Reddit, with users expressing their discontent over the inability to send new messages. However, it’s worth noting that users can still respond to incoming messages through their phone’s notifications, providing a temporary workaround.

The issue does not seem to be isolated to a specific brand of Android device. Users across various platforms, including Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy, have reported experiencing the same problem. Furthermore, it appears that the glitch is not tied to any particular service provider, as complaints have emerged from customers of Fido, Google Fi, T-Mobile, and Verizon. The common denominator in these reports is the beta version of the Google Messages app, specifically version 2025080500RC00. Notably, devices running the stable version of the app, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 5, have not exhibited any issues.

What can we do to fix the problem?

While encountering issues with beta software is not uncommon, traditional remedies such as restarting the device or clearing the app’s cache have proven ineffective for many users. However, some have found success by uninstalling and then reinstalling the beta update. Given that users can still receive messages—indicating that the background processes are functioning—the problem likely lies within the app’s foreground code. This suggests a potential issue with how the app interacts with the operating system, a concern that could be addressed with relative ease. Nonetheless, there remains the possibility of other underlying issues.

Efforts to obtain a comment from Google regarding the timeline for a resolution are underway, and updates will be provided as they become available.
