Google’s Find My Device network has faced its share of challenges since its inception, yet there is a promising horizon ahead as enhancements are on the way. Among the most eagerly awaited features is the integration of Ultra-Wideband (UWB) tracker support, which appears to be in the works with the introduction of a new “compass” functionality.

In the recent update of the Find My Device app for Android, version 3.1.148, Google has laid the groundwork for a novel “compass” feature. The code reveals that users will be guided to locate their devices with directional prompts such as “Turn left,” “Turn right,” and “The device is behind you.”
This feature is expected to work in conjunction with UWB trackers, alongside augmented reality capabilities that were hinted at in previous reports.

Alternatively, the terminology used suggests that this could enhance the existing functionality for locating trackers. Currently, the Find My Device app offers a basic user interface to help pinpoint the location of standard Bluetooth trackers, albeit with limited precision. This new compass feature could represent a significant upgrade, particularly for devices equipped with UWB technology.
However, initial tests with the Moto Tag indicate that this functionality is not yet operational.
