Google is currently revisiting some of the user interface changes made to its Phone app last year, particularly in response to user feedback regarding the placement of the Contacts tab. This adjustment is part of a broader effort to enhance user experience within the app.
Upcoming Changes to the Phone App
In the latest beta version of the Phone by Google app (v240.0.986973448), new user interface modifications have been uncovered. Previously, the app featured a navigation bar that included only two tabs: Home and Keypad, with the Contacts option relegated to a sidebar. In regions where Voicemail is supported, a third tab for Voicemail was also present.
However, Google is now working to reintegrate the Contacts tab back into the navigation bar, positioning it conveniently between the Home and Keypad tabs. This change aims to provide users with quicker access to their saved contacts, enhancing the overall functionality of the app. Once this update is implemented, the sidebar will no longer display the Contacts option.
While the new user interface has been successfully activated on test devices through some adjustments, the timeline for its public rollout remains uncertain. The redesigned layout appears to be user-friendly and operates seamlessly, suggesting that it is well-prepared for broader use.
