Google Drive introduces new Gemini-powered ‘Catch Me Up’ feature
What you need to know
In a bid to enhance user experience, Google Workspace has unveiled an innovative feature within Google Drive, aptly named “Catch Me Up.” This addition, powered by Gemini AI, is designed to keep users informed about recent edits and comments in their documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
Accessible through the “Ask Gemini” section, “Catch Me Up” offers a succinct overview of significant changes made since the last time a user accessed their files. This feature is currently being rolled out to Google Workspace and Google One AI Premium users, with initial support for the English language.
The functionality of “Catch Me Up” is particularly noteworthy. When users engage with a Google Doc, for instance, Gemini provides a detailed account of modifications made since their last visit. This includes a comprehensive summary of alterations, ensuring that users are always in the loop regarding their collaborative projects.
For documents that are frequently updated, a distinctive “catch me up” icon will appear next to the file name, facilitating quick access to the Gemini overview of changes. This intuitive design allows users to effortlessly navigate through the latest updates without sifting through extensive document histories.
The rollout of this feature began on June 3, targeting both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. It aims to serve all eligible Google Workspace users, as well as those subscribed to the Google One AI premium plan, marking a significant step forward in enhancing productivity and collaboration within the platform.
