Google has recently unveiled an update to its Google Home app, which rolled out on December 10. This latest enhancement, while modest in scale, introduces a noteworthy convenience for users managing Nest devices.
Streamlined Device Transfers
The update allows users to transfer multiple Nest devices from the Nest app to the Google Home app with a single tap. Previously, this process required users to move devices one at a time, which could be cumbersome and time-consuming. Now, with this new functionality, users can seamlessly transition their Nest cameras, thermostats, locks, and smoke alarms—all dating back to 2015—into the Google Home ecosystem.
This shift is part of Google’s broader strategy to consolidate Nest features and devices within the Google Home app, a transition that has been ongoing throughout 2023. The ultimate aim is to retire the legacy Nest app, enabling users to manage all their smart home devices from a single platform.
It is important to note that this feature is currently available only to users enrolled in the Google Home Public Preview program. For those who have been hesitant to make the switch, this update removes yet another obstacle, encouraging a smoother integration into the Google Home environment.
