As of Thursday afternoon, a segment of Google Messages users is experiencing an unexpected issue where the app crashes shortly after being launched. Upon opening the application, users are met with a swift closure, typically just a few seconds into their session.
Interestingly, those affected have found that they can still engage with their conversations through notifications or utilize the chat head feature without any interruptions. This peculiar behavior coincides with the rollout of the latest beta version (2025080500RC00), which was released just a day prior. Reports indicate that this issue is primarily observed on devices running Android 16 and 16 QPR1, particularly among Pixel and Samsung phone users. However, it is worth noting that not every user is facing this challenge.
In attempts to resolve the problem, many have turned to basic troubleshooting methods such as restarting their devices or clearing the app’s cache, but these efforts have proven ineffective. Some users have found success by navigating to the App info section and uninstalling updates via the three-dot menu located in the top-right corner. Following this step, reinstalling the update has reportedly rectified the crashing issue, all while preserving the user’s message history intact.
