Google Messages RCS is breaking for Galaxy users after using Smart Switch

What you need to know

Samsung Galaxy users are experiencing a notable uptick in RCS (Rich Communication Services) issues within Google Messages, particularly following their transition to new devices using Samsung’s Smart Switch. This shift comes on the heels of Samsung’s decision to phase out its own Messages app in the U.S., directing users to adopt Google Messages as the sole application supporting RCS on Galaxy phones.

Reports have emerged from various users on platforms like Reddit, indicating that RCS functionality ceases after transferring data to new Galaxy devices. A common error code, 3100, has been cited by those attempting to enable RCS or send messages. This has raised concerns among users who expected a seamless transition to their new devices.

In response to these concerns, a Google representative has suggested that the root of the problem may lie in corrupted cache files transferred during the Smart Switch process. While some users have considered performing a factory reset as a potential solution, it remains uncertain whether this approach will effectively resolve the issue for everyone involved.

Additionally, there are reports of similar RCS complications arising from users switching carriers. Google has indicated that these instances may stem from incomplete number-porting processes, further complicating the landscape for those affected.

As it stands, many Galaxy users are grappling with RCS functionality challenges after transitioning to new devices or carriers. Google is aware of these ongoing issues, but a universal solution that guarantees resolution for all users has yet to be established.
