Google Phone app rolling out custom ‘calling cards’ on Android

In a significant update following the recent Material 3 Expressive redesign, the Google Phone app is now rolling out a feature that allows users to create personalized calling cards. This enhancement aims to elevate the user experience by providing a more customized interaction when receiving calls.

Introducing Calling Cards

Upon availability, users will notice a promotional message at the top of the Home tab, stating, “Introducing calling card: Customize how you see your contact when they call you.” Additionally, for those who prefer a more streamlined editing process, Google Contacts will also prompt users to customize their calling cards directly.

Within the Phone by Google app, users can access a dedicated “Calling card” page that conveniently lists all added contacts for quick modifications. This feature can be found in the Settings menu of the app, located near the bottom for easy access.

Once a contact is selected, users have the option to take a new photo, browse their gallery, or utilize Google Photos to choose an image. The customization process includes cropping the image and adjusting its framing, as well as personalizing the contact’s name with a variety of font and color choices.

After finalizing these settings, the selected image will appear prominently on both the incoming call and in-call screens, providing a unique visual experience. It’s important to note that while these images are tailored to individual preferences, users do not have control over how they appear to others during calls.

This feature is currently being rolled out to stable users with version 188 of the Google Phone app, coinciding with the launch of the Pixel 10 and the anticipated Material 3 Expressive update alongside Android 16 QPR1.
