Google Photos, the go-to media management tool for Android users, appears to be on the verge of introducing a new feature that could simplify the process of concealing specific individuals from users’ photo libraries. According to a recent report, this functionality would allow users to select particular faces and effectively hide them from the Memories tab, streamlining what has previously required a more cumbersome approach.
Hide People in Google Photos
As detailed by Android Authority’s C. Scott Brown, in collaboration with the tipster Assemble Debug, the feature, tentatively named Hide face from memories, was uncovered during an APK teardown of the Google Photos app for Android. This new capability is expected to enhance user control over their photo memories.
The proposed feature is designed to enable users to select certain faces and hide any images or videos featuring those individuals from the Memories tab. Alternatively, users may opt to conceal these faces from their entire photo library on Android devices. While some version of this functionality has existed in earlier iterations of Google Photos, the anticipated update promises a more user-friendly experience.
According to the report, the process for hiding faces may involve a few simple steps. Users can navigate to any photo, swipe up to access its metadata, and tap on the three-dot menu next to the face in the People section. From there, selecting the Hide face from memories option will allow users to either reduce the frequency of that particular face appearing or remove it entirely from their gallery.
However, details regarding the timeline for this feature’s rollout remain unclear. Features identified during APK teardowns are typically in the testing phase, and it may take some time before they are made available in the public version of the Google Photos app. Additionally, there is a possibility that these features may remain experimental and never make it to the final product.
